Traveling is undoubtedly one of the best ways to add adventure to your life. However, if you truly want to “spice” up your trip, it is imperative you embrace not just your surroundings, but also the unique food served wherever you are. The local cuisine of any location you choose to visit, within the states or abroad, is an essential aspect of that particular culture. Whether it is the flavorful food of India or the down-home cooking of the South, trying the local cuisine should be a part of any trip you take.

Be Adventurous

Even if you tend to be on the more conservative side in terms of trying new foods, it is worth sampling some of the traditional foods of the region so you can get a greater feel for the local flavors. This does not mean you need to force yourself to eat raw fish eggs, spiced cow’s liver, or fried octopus if the thought if ingesting such things makes you nauseous. However, if you are willing to be a little adventurous and try something you wouldn’t taste ordinarily, it will definitely be worth it. You may even discover you love the savory and unusual local cuisine!

Read Up and Eat Up

Before going on your trip, it can be very helpful to read up on the native foods enjoyed by the locals. Travel books focusing on the specific area you are visiting or even simply searching online are extremely useful resources for trip planning. You may even be able to find some excellent recommendations about certain restaurants that specialize in the local dishes of the region. You certainly do not want to miss delicious food simply because you didn’t bother doing a little research ahead of time!

Packing Healthy Lunches for Day Trips

If you are like me, planning a day trip to a fun spot tops the list for an ideal weekend activity. I love setting aside an entire day to spend exploring a new hiking area or relaxing on the beach from morning until sunset. However, the problem I encounter on day trips like these is having to leave my destination to search for a place for lunch, a meal that will probably end up being overpriced and mediocre.

What is my solution? Pack a healthy lunch to bring with me on the trip. I can’t emphasize enough the numerous benefits of taking along a delicious lunch whenever you go on a day trip, but I’ve explained a few below.

Save Money

The most obvious advantage that comes with packing a healthy lunch to take with you on a day trip is savings money. Since you already have a delicious lunch ready and waiting as soon as your stomach begins to rumble, you won’t end up wasting money on a disappointing meal at a run of the mill restaurant in town. You can also avoid wasting precious gas trying to get there.

Save Time

Take a second and imagine this: You have just arrived at a secluded picturesque beach after driving two hours to reach the much-anticipated final destination. You unload the car and take your daypack, beach umbrella, towel, and duffle bag loaded with snorkeling equipment and other adventure gear to the perfect spot where you intend to spend the rest of the day. It’s only been an hour or so and that’s when they first arrive – hunger pangs. You can’t believe it but you look at your watch and it’s actually lunchtime. The last thing you want to do is leave!
Packing up all of your gear, loading the car, and trying to find a nearby restaurant to get something to eat could take more than an hour in itself and would mean losing precious time that could have been spent relaxing on the warm sand listening to the waves crashing a few feet away. If you had taken my advice, however, as soon as those hunger pangs hit, you would have been prepared with a scrumptious lunch ready and waiting for you. Instead of wasting an hour getting in your car and trying to find a lunch spot, all you have to do is unzip your daypack (although if its is a hot day I do recommend a cooler) and there is your lunch.

Be Healthy

When forced to find a source of sustenance while on a daytrip, the most common result is that you will end up eating greasy, fatty fast food. If you plan on hiking for the rest of the day, the last thing you want is to feel weighed down by a Big Mac. To avoid falling into this trap, all you have to do is plan ahead and pack a healthy lunch to take with you. I have found that the best type of lunch for a day trip includes a deli sandwich on whole grain bread (my favorite is turkey!), a crunchy green apple, almonds, and an oatmeal cookie for dessert. As long as it is well balanced, with a mixture of protein, fruit, and whole grains, you simply can’t go wrong!

Got a Business Trip Coming Up? Here’s How to Travel Smart!

With all of the new hassles associated with plane travel, it’s no wonder we all dread going on business trips these days. What used to be an easy trip has turned into a major nuisance. Traveling by plane now means getting to the airport up to two hours in advance, dealing with long lines at check-in, and waiting again in security, sometimes only to find your flight is delayed once you finally make it to the gate. Unfortunately, unless you can find a replacement, there is no way to get around going on your business trip. Although we can’t do anything about unforeseen delays or long security lines, with these smart travel tips you can make sure your next business trip goes as smoothly as possible.

Smart Packing

Your best bet when going on a two or three-day business trip is to pack only the most essential items you know that you will need. You want to pack lightly, efficiently, and quickly. This means thinking ahead about what meetings, events, dinners, or social affairs you will be attending and picking out the intended outfits ahead of time. Not only does this help you pack strategically, but it also makes it that much easier when it is time to dress for the event because you have already decided exactly what you are going to wear!

Smart Luggage

The key to effective packing is using luggage suited for a business trip. There are two types of luggage essential for any business travel. Compact, wheeled luggage that can be taken on the plane as a carry-on is ideal. If you can avoid waiting in line to check your luggage, you can speed-up your check-in process immensely. The second piece of essential luggage is a messenger bag. Normally messenger bags come with a strap that goes across your chest, which means your hands are free and you can easily move through the airport with newspaper and coffee in hand. Its intended purpose is to hold all the items that you want to have easy access to during the flight (i.e. computer, ipod, reading material, etc.). It is truly a must-have for all business travelers!

Smart Travel

There are several ways that you can make your experience go much smoother once you arrive at the airport. Many of these tips are things you can do before even leaving for the airport. Either the night before or the morning of your flight, it is a good idea to check-in online and print your boarding pass from your airline's Web site. As long as you are not checking baggage, this will make it all that much easier when you arrive at your terminal because you will not need to wait in the check-in line and can go directly to security. Follow these simple travel tips and your next business trip will be a breeze.
<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://www.innovationluggage.com/2008/07/got-business-trip-coming-up-heres-how.asp' title='Got a Business Trip Coming Up? How can you visit several destinations, spend quality time with your kids, and not burn a hole in your wallet all in one simple summer vacation? Take your family on a road trip! It is an adventurous and cost-effective way to explore new places and create lasting memories. Initially you may think the idea of a road trip sounds a bit daunting, but with a little advanced planning and forethought, your road trip is bound to be a success. Of foremost importance is effective packing. By using the simple packing tips below, you can ensure a stress-free, fun-filled road trip for the entire family!

1. Make a List

As simple as it sounds, making a list of all of the items that you want to bring with you is the first step in packing wisely. Since it is so easy to forget even the most essential items (i.e. toothbrush, bathing suits, socks, underwear, etc.), it is best if this list is as complete and comprehensive as possible. Making a list like this has two benefits. First, writing items down often helps you think of other essential items you might otherwise have neglected to pack while also helping you weed out those non-essentials that would simply have wasted space. Second, making a list guarantees nothing is forgotten. To that end, items should only be crossed off the list once they have actually been placed in the duffle bag.

2. Duffle Bags for Everyone!

One of the most dreaded parts about preparing for a long road trip with the whole family is figuring out how everything will actually fit in the car! One of the most common pitfalls people run into when preparing for a road trip is not using the right type of luggage. The best rule to follow is to allow each family member to bring one suitcase (not including an easily accessible daypack). You may think that this will be impossible, but if you use luggage well suited for this type of trip it should not be a problem. The most optimal type of luggage for a road trip is a duffle bag. Expandable duffle bags are the best because they allow you to hold more stuff if needed while retaining flexibility. If you can find wheeled duffle bags and/or wheeled backpacks, these are even better because rather than straining your back carrying luggage to and from the car each time you visit a new destination, you can wheel it. In fact, if your children’s luggage is also on wheels, they can help with this carrying their own bags.

3. Loading the Trunk

Once everything has actually been packed and the bags are zipped and ready to go, it is time to load it all into the trunk of the car. This may seem like an intimidating task, but it is doable. The best way to go about it is to load up everything the day before so you have plenty of time to make any necessary adjustments. The heaviest and largest items should go in first and be placed as far forward in the cargo area as possible. The lighter items should go on top, but you will want to make sure that your belongings are not packed so high that they impair your rear visibility. Most importantly, keep all essentials (i.e. emergency aid kit, maps, flashlight, and miscellaneous supplies) in the most accessible area of your trunk. This will allow you to access those items in an emergency without unpacking the entire trunk.

The First-Time International Traveler

Are you traveling abroad for the first time? Are you already starting to feel anxious about the big trip? No need to worry! Traveling abroad does not need to be anxiety provoking. Although you may hear horror stories associated with international travel, with these helpful suggestions your first trip abroad will be a stress-free adventure full of life-long memories and unforgettable experiences.

Plan Ahead

Since you are going to a foreign country, one thing you must have is a valid passport. All people traveling from country to country must have a passport because this acts as your official identification as a citizen of the US. One of the worst scenarios people run into on the day of their departure is looking at their passport only to discover that it expired the month before and is no longer valid. Passports are issued by the Department of State and are good for a period of 10 years. It is for this reason people often forget to check when their passport expires. It is imperative you verify that your passport is still valid well in advance of your scheduled departure date. If you are applying for a passport for the first time, you will need to do this in person at any office of the U.S. Passport Agency or through one of the several thousand federal or state courts or U.S. post offices authorized to accept passport applications. If you are renewing an expired passport, you can do it by mail. Most importantly, however, is allowing enough time for your application to be processed since this can sometimes take up to 8 weeks!

Be Smart

When traveling abroad, it is a good practice to record your passport number and its date of issue and put these details in a secure place separate from your actual passport. It is also advisable to make a photocopy of your passport (usually inside the back cover) and leave this with a friend or family member who will not be traveling with you. Although you will have your actual passport with you at all times during the trip, it is also good to take one other form of photo ID with you. This normally would be your driver’s license. If you take these added precautions, you will be able to handle any unexpected mishaps that come at you like a veteran IT (international traveler).

Travel Safe

Lastly, for added security when traveling abroad, it is smart to use TSA locks on your luggage. Every passenger’s baggage is screened before it is loaded onto the airplane. Sometimes this screening process entails physically inspecting a piece of luggage. You may have heard one consequence of this type of thorough inspection means that you cannot lock your luggage anymore because the locks will be cut. However, this is no longer accurate. TSA locks have been developed to address this issue specifically. These locks can be opened by security officers using a universal master key. Using TSA locks means you can secure your baggage without violating TSA regulations. Hitting the road when the mood strikes is a fun way to spend time with the family, and being flexible enough to take last-minute trips shows kids the value of being spontaneous.

Sound like fun? Of course, but children have short attention spans and this can make long road trips difficult for everyone. Pack a few activities for the children to play with on the road, and be prepared to make frequent stops – to stretch, grab a bite to eat, or use public restrooms. No matter what, don’t throw the kids and their Disney luggage into the family van and expect to drive eight hours straight just to make good time. You’ll be in for quite a surprise.

Get the Kids Involved in Planning

Involve kids when mapping out the road trip. Make a list of local sites you want to see and then make a list of sites that appeal to the children. Ask for their input and don’t forget about natural sights they might enjoy. If you’re driving down the coast of Florida, you’ll likely see alligator farms and a multitude of orange groves. Wouldn’t the children love to feed a gator or pick their own fruit? You bet.

Let the Kids Pack Their Own Luggage

While it may not be practical to put the kids in charge of packing their suitcases, they can certainly help. Let them know what the weather will be like and how many outfits they will need. If children can pick their own outfits and pack them in a fun Disney luggage set, they will feel very grown up, and the sense of involvement they get will add to the excitement of the journey.

To get younger kids involved, lay out a variety of outfits and let them narrow down the choices, or tell them they can pick out something on their own, like two pairs of shoes or two sweatshirts, for example. When packing younger children’s suitcases, let them watch you fold and place their clothing inside – eventually they’ll be doing it themselves, and younger kids love to watch and learn.

Keep Them Busy

Thanks to technology, it’s easy to put on a kids movie in the car, but don’t rely on movies for the entire trip. Children tire of doing the same thing and the goal is to keep them happy so adults can enjoy the ride. Playing simple games that involve the whole family and get kids to notice their surroundings are a safe bet. You can look for out-of-state license plates or see who can be the first to find the whole alphabet on billboards. These types of activities will keep kids engaged and create a memorable bonding experience for the whole family.

Don’t Forget the Snacks

Snack-size bags of chips or cookies, fresh fruit, juice boxes, and string cheese are all easy to take with you. Bring a small cooler if you have one, too. You can pack more snacks this way and avoid paying high prices at rest stops for vending machine junk. Sharing homemade popcorn in the family car or van is also a nice way to kick off the road trip.

Frequent Stops Are a Must

Incorporate a few extra hours of driving time into your daily itinerary for restroom breaks, sit-down meals, and unexpected “detours.” If kids see a sign that reads “Buffalo Preserve – Next Left,” making an unplanned stop to see the buffalo will add to the fun for everyone. The little detour may even turn out to be a high point of the trip - you never know. Stay flexible and open to seeing a variety of sights.

Creative Loading

It’s inevitable. At some point during the course of a road trip, someone in the family (usually kids, but sometimes adults, too!) will need to retrieve something from their luggage. If you’ve packed all the luggage tightly into the trunk, you’re going to have a problem finding things on the fly. Load your vehicle carefully and keep frequently used items in the front of the car for convenient access. Kids will feel better with their favorite Disney luggage tucked away at their feet, knowing they can reach for their stuffed animals, books, and toys whenever they want.

In the end, getting your kids involved in your vacation is easy – and keeping them comfortable along the way has a lot to do with your planning. Give kids a chance to be responsible, buy them a fun luggage set online to keep things exciting, bring along car activities and snacks, and keep items kids will access frequently in the front of the car. Once on the road, you may be surprised with all there is to do is see in your home state.

How To Make The Most Out Of Traveling Abroad

Most of us were warned never to talk to strangers as a kid. As an adult, you have probably repeated the age-old adage to the children in your family. “Safety” is the watchword these days and mostly for the right reasons, but while on vacation, it can be healthy to loosen up a little and allow yourself to meet new people.

“Loosening up” on vacation doesn’t mean you have to talk to everyone who crosses your path, but striking up conversations with fellow travelers and friendly locals can help create the ultimate travel experience. Travel should be an adventure, but you can miss a lot unless you interact with those around you.

Start at the Beginning

On a recent flight to Europe, one young man boarded the plane as usual, stowing his TravelPro luggage under the seat, and quickly turning on his iPod. He planned to spend the entire flight listening to music, but an hour later, the woman across the aisle nudged him.

“Are you going to Germany?” she asked, pointing toward the seat in front of him where a travel brochure was peeking out of his TravelPro luggage. When he confirmed his destination, they struck up a conversation that ended with the woman giving him the name and phone number of her relatives in Germany, people she said would be happy to treat him to dinner and take him on a tour.

Imagine if he had never had the conversation?

Talk to your seatmates whenever possible. Find out where they’re going and where they’ve been. You may not snag a phone number or dinner invitation, but you may gain a lifelong friend or pen pal. At the very least, you’ll enjoy a pleasant conversation and learn something you’d be hard-pressed to learn any other way.

Approach Locals

When traveling in a foreign land, don’t be afraid to ask questions. Most people take pride in their home and are happy to share information with tourists – and locals usually give much more interesting answers than tour guides do. Talk to bartenders in pubs, waiters in sidewalk cafés, and shopkeepers. Go where locals go and spend less time visiting flashy tourist sites. Visit local corner stores and restaurants, the kind that have been run by the same family for generations. Engaging this way promises a memorable and more authentic travel experience.

One last tip: While visiting local spots and enjoying the ambience, you may want to blend in to get a more natural feel for your destination. People may realize you are not a local, but most appreciate if you leave your loud Hawaiian shirt and Chanel sunglasses back at the hotel in your TravelPro luggage. If you dress like a native, sit down at the local watering hole to enjoy a regional drink (nothing with an umbrella in it, please), and keep an open mind, eventually you’ll find yourself making new memories with new friends. The allure is undeniable – you can exchange vows in a romantic, exotic location, and afterwards, move right on to the honeymoon. What is more, many couples love the idea of having close friends and family join them before the ceremony for a joyous, weeklong celebration. It’s a vacation that happens once-in-a-lifetime.

The Basics of the Destination Wedding

A destination wedding is generally more expensive than a traditional one, which usually means a relatively smaller guest list. While the wedding reception and related activities are paid for by the bride and groom, guests are expected to pay for their airfare and accommodations, and the reality is not everyone can afford this. Still, don’t put away your travel luggage just yet – many destination wedding packages feature discounted rates for guest rooms at certain hotels.

Most couples start to plan a destination wedding a year or more before the big day. Many send “Save the Date” cards to alert guests in advance, to give them ample opportunity to ask for vacation time and start scouting airfare. If you are invited to a wedding like this, view it as an opportunity to enjoy two wonderful experiences at once – attend a beautiful wedding and take a fabulous vacation with some of your closest friends and family. After all, if you’ve made the “short list,” it is clear the couple considers you one of their nearest and dearest friends.

For those who can afford the extravaganza, the planned activities leading up to the ceremony are usually a blast. When is the last time you had the chance to snorkel in coral reefs, sail a boat, and hop from island to island in celebration of a marriage? Couples usually plan at least two days worth of activities before the reception. After the ceremony, you can extend your vacation as long as you like!

What Do You Take to a Destination Wedding?

If you’ve decided to attend a destination wedding, take care with what you throw into your travel luggage. Consider the locale and type of ceremony. If you are heading to the tropics for a daytime wedding on the beach, you have no need for high heels and an elaborate cocktail dress. A beautiful sundress and flat sandals are more appropriate and will be much more comfortable on the sand. However, although dress codes are generally more relaxed in the tropics, it doesn’t mean men can wear cut-offs and a t-shirt with a beer logo to the ceremony. Be sensible.

In addition to your outfit for the main event, other items to pack include swimsuits, sunscreen, a camera, and a few versatile pieces to take you from day to evening. Consult the given itinerary when packing and remember to keep it simple and fun.

One last thing to consider when traveling to a tropical location is the weather. Evenings spent near water can be quite chilly, so you definitely want to bring a light sweater or jacket. Finally, don’t forget to bring the couple’s wedding gift in your travel luggage – and make sure it’s cushioned by clothing so it stays safe.

A destination wedding is bound to be an unforgettable experience. No other type of trip combines family, friends, an exotic vacation, and the momentous occasion that is marriage – not to mention the chance to get a tropical tan while sipping cocktails on the beach.

Bon voyage.

Money Saving Tips on Booking Flights & Travel Accommodations

Travel prices are on the rise this year, particularly with the cost of fuel on the upswing. Savvy travelers know there are plenty of ways to shave some dollars off the cost of vacations if they plan ahead and keep the basics in mind. The biggest savings can be found in how you book your flights and travel accommodations, although you can also save money on little things that add up, too. For example, shopping for discounted luggage online and comparing prices to get the best deal can mean more money left over to enjoy oneself.

Here are some other money-saving tips:

• Travel Off-Season. There are popular travel windows for most parts of the world, but if you plan to relax in a tropical region or do a lot of indoor antiquing, museum hopping, and the like, you may be able to travel during the off-season and save, not to mention avoid the crowds. The price of everything like food, airfare, and accommodations is lower in most popular tourist destinations during the off-season. If you want to take advantage of good weather but still save money, look for the “shoulder season,” the weeks in between peak season and off-season.

• Compare Airfares. Airline tickets are usually the single biggest expense on a vacation doing some extra research is worth it. Don’t assume the airfares on one website will be the same everywhere else. Many airlines have different deals set up with individual ticket brokerage sites, so visit several. Recommended sites include Travelocity, Kayak, and Priceline.

• Bundle Your Travel. The same websites offering discounts on airfare can book your hotel room and have a rental car waiting for you at your destination. Often times, the more items you bundle into a package, the more you’ll save. In some cases, if you fly a particular airline, you can get a discount of up to 20% on reservations at certain major hotel chains

• Ask About Discounts. Hotels offer discounts for many organizations like AARP, AAA, and Diner’s Club International, but rarely advertise them. If you belong to an organization, always ask for a discount when you check-in. It takes just a moment and may save you a fair amount. In some cases, you’ll also score a free upgrade – AAA members can often upgrade their rental car for the same price, for example.

• Be Flexible. If you want to take a trip to the beach and can be flexible about when you travel, sign-up online with several airline or travel sites to receive email alerts about sales, discounts, and low rates. Often times you can get last minute, unadvertised discounts. You just have to look around.

• Fly Mid-Week. Most people fly on the weekends or on Fridays or Mondays. However, the lowest priced flights tend to fly on Tuesdays and Thursdays when flights are relatively empty. If you can plan around these days, you have a better chance of scoring a lower priced plane ticket.

• Book Early. If you book at least two weeks in advance of your trip, you’ll usually be able to lock in a better price. Booking just a week ahead of time means you’ll be paying full price, which almost no one does anymore. It’s like paying full price for your luggage - you don’t need to do it when discounted luggage is available online.

• Don’t Be Afraid To Ask For A Refund. No airline will tell you they’ll refund the difference if a fare drops in price 24 hours or a week after you purchase your ticket, but some will do it if you inquire, or offer you a discount on a future flight. It never hurts to ask.

If you are conscious of how much you are paying for the basics, you may be able to save enough to extend your vacation for an extra few days, or plan a long-weekend getaway later in the year. Taking the time to get discounts is worth it.

Five Things You Should Always Have in Your Suitcase

Packing for your vacation seems pretty simple at first glance – toss in your clothes, toiletries, and a few pairs of shoes into your set of leather suitcases, zip them closed and you’re ready to go, right? Not exactly, but it’s a good start. Still, there are essentials you should always have in your suitcase, regardless of your destination or how long you will be gone. Carrying these essentials will help make your experience more comfortable. Here are some things not to forget:

A good book or two.
You’ll be busy on vacation, but there will always be one or two evenings of relaxing and unwinding. Whether you’re going to be lounging on a beach or relaxing by a roaring fire, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to catch up on your reading. Take a few interesting titles but remember - you want to be engaged, not overwhelmed. Vacation isn’t the time to tackle War and Peace or Ulysses. Likewise, paperback books are best because they weigh less and you won’t mind leaving them behind if you happen to forget them. When you’re finished reading one, you can swap books with other travelers, too, and many hotels have lending libraries where you can leave one book and choose another to read.

A folding tote bag

Don’t get to your destination and pay for an over-priced, poorly-made-for-tourists tote bag. Your leather suitcases have more than enough room for a sturdy tote bag folded flat. You’ll use your tote to carry essentials to the beach, while sightseeing, and when shopping for souvenirs. When you are ready to head home, you can use your tote as an extra carry-on, too.

Pain Killers

No one wants to think about being injured or getting a headache on vacation, but things happen. What’s more, even the expected – like a rousing night at a local pub – can lead to predictable pain in the form of a hangover the next morning. Always have some aspirin, a known hangover helper, and any other pain relievers you rely on tucked into your suitcase. Muscle relaxants or general muscle relief creams you can rub into overworked muscles are also a good idea - a long day of sightseeing can lead to sore, stiff limbs and it’s much easier to take care of yourself when you have remedies on hand.

Spare Glasses or Contacts

Whether you wear reading glasses, sunglasses, or contacts, don’t leave home without a spare set of glasses. If you lose a contact or your eye is injured, you’ll want your glasses so you can navigate without your lenses. Spare contacts are also nice if you tear or damage a lens so take more than you think you’ll need. In addition, if you need reading glasses for menus and the like, be sure to tuck an extra pair into your suitcase. You don’t want to spend time looking around for an eye doctor or having to wait hours or even days for a replacement pair of glasses. People leave behind glasses in restaurants, drop them over the sides of tour boats, and sit and step on them every day, but it’s a lot more difficult to replace them in a foreign country. If you’ve had the foresight to stick an extra pair into one of your leather suitcases, you only have to make a quick stop in your hotel room and you’re back in business.

Travel Guide

You want to get the most out of your vacation, so bring along a travel guide giving you detailed information on lodgings, restaurants, activities, parks, and other attractions in the areas you’ll be visiting. In the evenings before you turn in, you can give these a quick review and highlight a few things you’d like to scope out the next day. Fodor’s, Frommer’s, and Lonely Planet each publish guides with their own unique personalities, so check out different versions to find one you enjoy.

What to Pack for a Backpacking Trip to Europe

Taking a backpacking trip across Europe is one of the most adventurous and rewarding ways to travel. You can set your own pace, hop on the various train systems, walk from small town to village, and make new friends along the way. A key to enjoying yourself while backpacking is light luggage – you’ll be carrying everything on your back, so it’s important to bring only the bare necessities.

Rethink Your Clothing

Even if you’re going for two weeks or more, you need only three complete outfits in your backpack. How can you get by? Bring nothing unless it is wash-and-wear. Many websites sell travel clothing made of acetate-nylon blends for easy care. Clothes like these can be washed in your hotel or hostel sink if necessary, and laid out to dry at night so they are ready to pack the next morning. Likewise, take care that your tops, pants, shorts, and skirts mix-and-match. The idea is to have as many outfits as possible at your disposal while bringing the least number of items. The only things you may want to pack extra pairs of are socks and underwear, which don’t require much space.

A good combination for most trips would be:

• 1-2 pairs of Khakis or dark pants, 1-2 pair of shorts. Forget jeans unless traveling in cold weather; they require more space and are usually too hot.
• 2-3 short-sleeved shirts or tanks, preferably in neutral or darker colors that won’t easily show dirt.
• 1 long-sleeved shirt and a lightweight sweater

Even if you think you’ll need to dress up on vacation, you don’t necessarily have to take a complete outfit with you. Most places in Europe require only a nice pair of slacks and a polo shirt for men. For women, the guidelines may be different, so ladies should always pack the quintessential black knit dress. It won’t wrinkle and can be worn casually, or dressed up with earrings and lipstick.

Other items to consider are a swimsuit or swim trunks and a Ziploc bag in case you have to store them wet, and a sunhat to protect your scalp, face, and eyes from hot temperatures. A foldable straw hat or canvas one is best so you can toss them into your backpack.

Shoes Must be Comfortable

It is a good idea to splurge on shoes. You’ll be walking a lot, so a quality pair of walking shoes is essential. Break them in before your trip and wear them when you leave. The only other shoes you may need are a pair of slightly dressier shoes or sandals in case you’ll be going somewhere with a dress code. Finally, if you have room in your luggage, bring some flip-flops to wear at the beach and in communal bathrooms where you’ll want to protect your feet.

Streamline Your Guidebook

You’ll need a guidebook and maps, but don’t stuff a huge, 800-page travel guide into your light luggage or backpack. It’s a better idea to rip out or copy the pages you need and leave the book at home. The same goes for maps – look for detailed regional maps and skip the larger, more comprehensive ones.

Leave the Gadgets at Home

Hair dryers, curling irons, and irons are not needed. Invest in a hairstyle you won’t need to fuss around with too much since you will be constantly on the go. As far as personal electronics, a compact digital camera and an MP3 player for long treks between towns will suffice.

Odds and Ends

Light luggage stays that way because you pack only what you need. Since you’ll be washing your clothes frequently, pack travel-sized bottles of detergent. The same applies to toiletries and medications – small bottles and travel sizes.

A small, folding travel umbrella will come in handy if the weather takes a turn for the worse. If you have room, add a lightweight poncho.

Finally, bring a money belt. There may be times when you can lock up your light luggage or backpack up at a hotel or hostel for the day, but you should never leave your debit or credit cards, passport, or other personally identifiable documents behind, no matter how soon you plan to return. A money belt is ideal for times like these and most stores selling luggage online offer money belts, too.

No matter what, remember you are backpacking across Europe to leave the weight of your life behind for a few weeks. Keep luggage light so you can enjoy yourself more freely. You may be amazed by how little you actually need.

Packing for a Warm Weather Vacation – The Do’s and Don’ts

You’re probably thinking of nothing more than relaxing in the sun and enjoying the warm weather while on vacation, but it’s essential you pack your travel luggage properly to avoid inconveniences down the line. Since it is easy to be carried away, we have put together a quick list of packing “do’s” and “don’ts” to make the packing process easier.

Keep it simple.
Even the nicest resorts are relatively relaxed in tropical areas. There’s no need for high heels or a full suit. Women can wear a nice sundress and men can get by with dress slacks and a polo shirt in the evenings. Keep accessories in mind for dressing your look up or down. Strappy sandals and the right earrings can take you from a casual day to an elegant evening in a snap. The only exception is if you are going on a cruise - you may need to wear formal attire for the captain’s dinner. When in doubt, call and ask.

Bring two bathing suits.
Your travel luggage should have a compartment for wet or damp items, so take advantage, and pack two swimsuits. If needed, a Ziploc bag will also do the trick, but either way, you’ll want an extra suit - there is nothing worse than putting on a damp swimsuit because yours didn’t have time to dry.

Don’t forget sunscreen.
It’s tempting to plan on buying sunscreen and bug repellent once you get to wherever you’re going, but don’t. The last things you want to do when you arrive are look for a drugstore or gift shop, and then pay an arm and a leg for what costs a mere 6 bucks at home. Just pack it in advance.

Bring extra sunglasses.
The sun’s glare can be blinding, especially near beaches where it reflects off sand and water. You’ll need sunglasses just about everywhere you go, and you’ll probably lose or break a pair. Toss at least one extra pair of inexpensive shades into your travel luggage and you’ll be safe.

Don’t over pack.
Base your wardrobe around mix-and-match items in neutral colors for versatility. You can always add a punch of color with bright accessories. You may want to bring one colorful piece that coordinates with the rest of your items. Finally, avoid white – it becomes dirty quickly and isn’t practical for travel.

Versatility.
For men, there’s nothing more versatile than khakis. They look great with tees during the day and can be dressed up with a polo or button-down shirt at night. For women, a sarong can be worn as a cover-up at the beach or a wrap on chilly evenings.

Don’t bring lots of shoes.
High-heels and dress shoes aren’t needed on most warm weather vacations. Sandals, flip-flops, and a pair of comfortable walking shoes for long days of sightseeing should be all you need. Choose neutral tones to match most of your outfits and avoid anything too dramatic.

Remember to bring a sweater.
Sea breezes can turn into cold winds at night, even in tropical climates, so pack a light sweater or jacket in a neutral or dark color. You’ll appreciate having something warm and cozy to wear for late-night walks on the beach, afternoons spent sailing, or in the midst of a surprise storm.

Everyone needs a tote bag. Vacations usually mean shopping and a sturdy, versatile tote is a great way to carry around your finds. Check out online luggage stores for bargains on durable folding totes that will slip into your travel luggage and last for years.

Follow these simple packing tips and you’ll be ready to enjoy a fabulous warm weather vacation without being bogged down with more luggage than you need.

Things to Take Care of Before Your Extended Vacation

When you’re finally ready to take a lengthy vacation, make sure you can enjoy it. Make a list of the things you need to do before you leave and start doing them well in advance of your departure. To protect your home and privacy, and make life easier while you’re too far away to take care of unexpected problems, there are several things to consider.

1. Pay any bills
due during the time you’re traveling. It’s best to check credit card statements online rather than looking through your most recent statements. Some only arrive in the mail a week or so before they’re due, and if you’ll be gone for three weeks or more, you could be hit with hefty late fees.

2. Forward your mail
to a friend or relative and cancel your newspaper delivery until you return. Nothing alerts burglars like mail piling up in your mailbox or newspapers stacked on your lawn – they are practically invitations to come look through your mail for something worthwhile. If taking credit cards with you, tuck them into your travel luggage or purse and you’ll be fine. If leaving any credit cards behind, store them in a safety deposit box or leave them with a trusted friend.

3. Remember important documents.
It sounds simple, but many people don’t plan far enough in advance to secure their passports and visas. Apply for these documents months before your vacation to avoid the possibility of having to cancel your trip. The process has become more complex in the last eight years and takes quite a while.

4. Arrange for a house sitter to visit your home periodically.
Signs of life reduce chances of a break-in. Ask a house sitter turn the lights on and off in different rooms, make a little noise, and stay for a while, whether watching television or reading a book. The point is for your house to seem occupied. A house sitter can also care for plants, adjust your thermostat as needed, and open windows to let in some fresh air.

If you cannot arrange for a house sitter, invest in a few automatic timers to turn your lights on and off automatically while you are away.

5. Get a physical.
This may not seem like a priority in the days of before you leave, but the last place you want to be when you have an unexpected health problem is thousands of miles from your doctor. A routine physical will give you peace of mind on your trip, and any concerns can be addressed before you leave. Tell your doctor about your travel plans, too, as he or she may recommend preventative care

6. Refill your medications.
If you take prescription medication, bring enough to last for the entire length of your journey. If you’re going on a cruise for two months or renting a cottage in the south of France for the summer, you may need to talk to your pharmacist, doctor, and health coverage provider in advance to get a two-or-three month supply of your medication at once. Take care of any needed refills several weeks before you leave so there is time to handle any paperwork or red tape involved. Overseas regulations may be different and you don’t want to go through a battle to get your refills while you are trying to relax. Also, tuck copies of your prescriptions and your doctor’s contact information into a safe corner of your travel luggage, just in case. You never know.

7. Organize emergency contact information.
Give relatives and friends your itinerary and emergency contact information before leaving. Likewise, print out their information, including phone numbers and addresses, on a small sheet or card, laminate it, and tuck it into your travel luggage. It will come in handy for sending postcards, mailing packages, or as a quick reference if you have an emergency overseas.

If you take care of these details well in advance, the days leading up to your vacation can be stress-free – and knowing you have what you need will help you truly relax and enjoy your trip.

Building an Indispensable Luggage Set

If you travel a lot (and who doesn’t these days?), having a good set of luggage is essential to traveling comfortably. Most people don’t realize building a good set of luggage doesn’t have to be expensive and or happen all at once.

Many wait until planning the vacation of their dreams to run out and buy a full set of luggage, but if you haven’t tried any of the pieces beforehand, you won’t know how well they will work for you or whether a particular brand is a good fit. The perfect luggage set is one you build over time, adding pieces as needed to ensure you end up with a luggage set that suits your lifestyle and needs.

It’s Never Too Early to Invest in Quality

Your children should have a few good pieces of kids’ luggage so they learn how to pack their own clothes and accessories. It’s part of the fun of traveling and will make them feel very grown up. The choices are endless. You can get them something fun in bright colors or opt for a classic style that will grow with them.

Today there are many styles of kids’ luggage made just as well as adult luggage but scaled to children’s sizes. These versions integrate well into a more adult luggage set as they become teens and young adults. And remember, kids can be pretty tough on their stuff, so investing in quality is worth it.

Buy What You Need, When You Need It

Top quality luggage lines always sell a variety of open stock pieces as well as sets of luggage. You can either start with a basic set and add on particular pieces appropriate to your lifestyle later or you can buy just the individual pieces you need when you need them.

You could start your luggage collection with a few basics such as a wheeled carry on and a garment bag. These two pieces will see you through any week of business meetings or a long weekend in style. They’re versatile, easy to stow in an airplane and, in most cases, are considered carry-on luggage, which is great if you want to travel without a lot of delays.

When you buy a few pieces at a time you can afford to splurge a bit and get the best possible quality. Spending more on a few quality pieces will pay off in the long run – they will last for years, wear like iron and look like new even after years of rough handling. A year or two down the line, add another piece or two to round out your set. Maybe you’re traveling more or your considering a lengthier vacation? Add an expandable upright or a wheeled duffle bag.

The key to building the perfect luggage set is to plan for three different types of travel. Think about why and how you travel, and then consider how long you are typically gone when you travel. Here are three different sample scenarios:

The Weekend Getaway
Have a good, flexible piece of luggage you can “grab and go” with for unexpected adventures over a long weekend.

The Business Week On The Road
Be sure you have at least one piece of luggage that will keep your suits and other work attire neat and ready to go on the road. Think less bulk and more flexibility.

Swiss Army Luggage or Bust

Your luggage should be built to last. Quality and durability trumps a bargain when it comes to transporting your personal belongings safely, comfortably, and securely. You need a piece of luggage you can rely on from a brand you have come to know and trust. You need Swiss Army.

When shopping for a new piece of luggage to suit your busy lifestyle, buying brand name can help take the guesswork out of your purchase. Plus, when it seems there are as many luggage brands on the shelf as cities on the map to visit, choosing a brand you can rely on is strangely satisfying. Almost like your little secret. A well-deserved indulgence. A mini-luxury.

Even if it costs a little more to buy brand-name pieces, quality goods are a savvy investment. Because brand-name luggage tends to last much longer than its no-name counterparts, in the end you actually save. Pay less today for a flimsy piece of luggage and you will only end up replacing it when it rips and buckles tomorrow.

Check out the five reasons our guest blogger, Andrew P., a seasoned world traveler and long-time InnovationLuggage.com customer, swears by Swiss Army luggage for classic pieces that last.

Quality
Famous for its steel knives and renowned for delivering high-quality goods consistently, Swiss Army makes luggage you can live with. Never worry again about the stitching on your bag coming loose, the sides of your suitcase buckling, or the zippers coming off the tracks after only one or two uses.

Durability
Ever had a duffle bag rip during a routine security search at the airport terminal? Maybe you have watched your bag coming down the conveyer belt and noticed your personal belongings and clothes were popping out the sides. Avoid the hassle with quality pieces, and you can make sure your comings and goings are stress-free.

Warranty
Buy a less expensive, disposable piece of luggage and you have to throw it away when it falls apart. What a waste. Spend a little more and you can benefit from the Victorinox “carry with confidence” guarantee, whereby every piece of luggage is guaranteed free of manufacturing defects, for the life of the bag.

Money back
Not sure you love your purchase? Disappointed with the styling or realize it doesn’t suit your needs? Buy Swiss Army luggage online at innovationluggage.com and you can take advantage of a 30-day money-back guarantee – not something you can count on when you buy any old suitcase you find on the sale rack.

Discounts
Think discount luggage is a real value? If your piece lasts only a few short trips, where is the value then? When you shop Swiss Army luggage, you can look for discounts on quality pieces you like, and purchase them with confidence, knowing you are getting an incredible deal.

Next time you need new luggage for a business trip, vacation, family outing, or kid going off to college, visit innovationluggage.com to shop luggage online to and save on all the latest styles.

Buying the Right Business Luggage
Leather briefcases, laptop cases, and business cases are must-have accessories for busy professionals. Whether commuting back and forth from home to work, running from meeting to meeting, traveling for business, or going to meet clients at their offices, business professionals need a practical way to carry the tools they need to do their jobs on the go. Moreover, with our culture becoming increasingly reliant upon wireless and handheld technology to stay connected and conduct business on the fly, it is important your business luggage can comfortably accommodate everything you need to carry – from laptops to file folders and cell phones to PDA’s.

Ready to shop? Don’t get overwhelmed the vast array of options. Check out our descriptions of three popular styles of business luggage below to help you select the right piece for your lifestyle.

The Briefcase

The briefcase is everywhere. Attorneys, executives, consultants, and the like carry them around every day, taking important papers, files, and productivity tools everywhere they go. If you decide to go this route, a leather briefcase is standard for serious professionals. A classy briefcase confers an air of competence, professionalism, authority, and style onto the owner. And while you can choose from a variety of designs, colors, options, and textures, don’t compromise on your briefcase’s essential features.

Here are a few things to consider:

Organization

Does your briefcase have enough pockets, zippers, and compartments to keep your papers, devices, pens, and files organized and easily accessible?

Security
– While some people prefer a key lock, this type of lock is outdated. Get a briefcase with a number lock if you care about convenience and speed. All you have to do is remember the combination, and you never have to worry about losing or forgetting the key.

Sturdiness
– Do you travel often? Attend meetings outside of the office? Avoid a soft top and get something sturdier that will not be easily damaged.

The computer case
– Inspired by the leather briefcase, computer cases, also known as “laptop bags,” are specially designed to transport laptops safely and securely. Most computer cases have several compartments for accessories like mice and power cords, and extra padding in the section designed to hold the laptop. Get a computer case that carries everything you need – it is much easier than carrying around two bags all day.

The business case
– A briefcase, computer case, and file carrier in one, business cases are usually made of durable materials and are great for those times when you need to carry everything but the kitchen sink. With places for a laptop, file accordions to hold files securely, and various compartments for your PDA, cell phone, and other accessories, business cases are a great comprehensive solution for the professional who needs a mini-office at their fingertips.

No matter what type of bag or case you are looking for, shopping for business luggage online is a great way to save time and money by comparison shopping – without ever having to leave your home or office. Moreover, looking at the different options available online will help you narrow down your choices. Be it computers, the Internet, GPS technology, wireless phones, portable MP3 players, or handheld PDA’s, more people are carrying around more devices – and relying on them to stay in touch with the rest of the world. It is no surprise that as technology advances in computing and electronics, so does the technology used to create luggage for the modern consumer. While simple bags made of nylon or leather stitched together used to suffice for most people, consumers today are looking for stylish, compact on the outside yet spacious on the inside, and practical pieces of luggage to suit their travel needs.

A recent trend in the luggage industry is the offering of lightweight luggage options. Not only does lightweight luggage make traveling more comfortable for the consumer by keeping the weight of the luggage minimal, it also allows one to carry more while traveling, without exceeding the increasingly reduced weight limit guidelines in place by airlines and other forms of commercial transportation.

Who is at the top of the trend? Delsey luggage, whose new Helium collection is up to 40 % lighter than any other line of luggage, making it an attractive option for those who want to travel light.

Taking advantage of the ultra-light weight of helium, Delsey luggage, already considered a leader in lightweight luggage, has taken its product line to a new level by exceeding consumers’ expectations and offering unparalleled form and function. Since launching the Helium collection, Delsey has revamped many of their pre-existing luggage designs as well. From soft-top suitcases to compact carry-on bags, this manufacturer offers a variety of lightweight luggage options to take you from home to vacation and from business to pleasure in style.

Delsey luggage recently introduced the Helium Fusion, Helium Breeze, Helium Elite, and Helium Pilot series, among others. Each piece in these Helium series features quality workmanship, including the use of frames comprised primarily of extremely lightweight fiberglass, the material also used in making golf clubs and tennis racquets. The polyester used to build most pieces is of superb quality and is reinforced with molded polypropylene to provide extra support at the wear and tear points. The EVA foam backing adds to the bags’ lightweight feel while also making the bag more comfortable to tote around wherever you go. Finally, the zippers are made with self-repairing interlocking #10 nylon coil, a sturdy choice that ensures the zipper on your luggage lasts forever.

Interested in Delsey but not sure you want to take the plunge and buy new luggage? With Delsey you can buy with confidence - this manufacturer offers a 10-year warranty on your purchase.

What’s to lose?

A lightweight piece of luggage built with high-quality materials that offers reliability, durability, and convenience is a must-have for travelers in the know who want style and comfort without having to compromise on function. Next time you travel, instead of cutting down on the baggage that you pack to meet airline guidelines, travel with a piece from the Helium collection by Delsey Luggage.

Lighten your load and check out Delsey luggage online at innovationluggage.com now.

The Top 5 American Ski Resorts

How do you fancy a ski vacation this winter, perhaps with a bit of snowboarding thrown in? There’s nothing better than planning your winter vacation, packing your ski bag and looking forward to a weekend on the slopes. All you need do now is to grab your backpack and head off for the airport, or even just jump into your car and off you go.

But where to? Where are people going this winter? What are the top American ski resorts at the moment? Well, to be truthful it is very difficult to say, and my five would not be your five, but here’s where I would be heading for if I had the choice – and lucky enough to have the opportunity!

Number 5: Alta, Utah

Just 45 minutes drive from Salt Lake City International, this fabulous resort is great for skiers of all abilities. With a 200 foot vertical drop, Alta has upwards of 115 runs with deep powder and a variety of terrain to suit advanced skiers and beginners alike. This resort would have been listed higher due its magnificent scenery were it not for the absence of snowboarding. No need for your snowboard bag on this trip, unfortunately, but the skiing just about makes up for it.

Number 4: Squaw Valley, California.

Famed for its beautiful views of Lake Tahoe, Squaw Valley is one of the USA’s Olympic resorts and night skiing on the 3.2 mile mountain run is worth packing your wheeled duffel bag for. There is also the Riviera Superpipe, and if your family are not into skiing like you then there are lots for them to do and see at the Ice Pavilion and Olympic Museum where they can soak up the history of the 1960 Winter Olympics. Alternatively, soak up the sun in the Swimming Lagoon and Spa or relax on your comfort pillow on a sundeck at the Gold Coast Lodge.

Squaw Valley has a great deal to offer, and is especially good for a family holiday where nobody will be bored, whether they are into skiing and snowboarding or not.

Number 3: Vail, Colorado

Vail calls itself ‘America’s Favorite Resort’, with which it is difficult to argue. It is the largest individual ski resort in America, with three different parts of the mountain being distinctly different in what it has to offer. It doesn’t matter what you like doing, you will find it here.

You can ski, snowboard or try a high speed quad. If these don’t tickle your fancy, how about putting on the backpack and trying a bit of dog sledding or snowmobiling up into the mountain. For those seeking more cerebral entertainment, there are museums and several art galleries. Add some hockey and ballooning to that and you will begin to get an idea of the scale of this place.

It might have reached number one, but does not quite match the other two for its pure skiing variety. However, it is big and you will find no fewer than four skiers for each acre of snow on a busy day. It doesn’t matter how bad you are – nobody is going to see you!

Number 2: Stowe Vermont

The 200 year old village of Stowe could also have been the top pick, if only for its charm, but what else would you expect of a typical New England ski resort. It actually consists of the two areas of Spruce Peak and Mount Mansfield, Vermont’s highest mountain. It also has a lift-link to the family resort of Smuggler’s Notch, which makes Stow a great destination for a full family vacation.

You can snowboard and snowshoe as well as ski, and you will not be short of shopping with over 90 shops from which to choose. This area of New England has a lot going for it and is an excellent choice for a summer or winter vacation.

Number 1: Aspen, Colorado

Aspen has to get top spot for the only reason that this is a list of the top 5 ski resorts. Aspen is unbeatable in the USA for its skiing, and wherever you go you are liable to bump into somebody famous. Or rich. Or both! The Aspen Mountain Powder Tours will test the best of skiers, and those just short of being experts will find the intermediate slopes to present just the right degree of challenge. The backside of the mountain offers acres of terrain for expert skiers.

The steep slopes of Aspen are famous, and the area contains four separate mountains that offer fabulous skiing opportunities for all levels of ability. You can also get snowboarding, paragliding and fly fishing, and Aspen is just right for a fantastic winter vacation. That sounds a bit repetitive, but every one of these five resorts is astounding in its own way.

Whether you pack your ski bag or just a backpack for wandering around the mountains, there is everything in all five of these resorts for you, and both Vail and Stowe are ideal for a full family vacation.

Many of these sites also offer snowboarding, and if winter sports is your thing then check out this page here: http://www.innovationluggage.com/c-206-skisnowboard.aspx
where you will find some stylish ski and snowboard bags that will protect your valuable equipment while looking great with your luggage.

How to Prepare for a Cruise

How do you vacation? Amidst excitement of getting a great deal on your luggage set, you have to ask yourself where and how you will plan your vacation. One must consider many things: hotels, entertainment, transportation, etc. One form of traveling combines several elements together – taking a cruise. Many people have been happy forgoing other forms of traveling in order to embark on the open seas aboard a cruise ship.

You may have several questions and concerns before beginning your journey. This article is orchestrated to help answer your inquiries.

Length
How long can you go on a cruise? That is up to you. Most cruise lines offer hours, days, weeks, and even months as lengths of time. Cruises are engineered to fit your vacation dollars. You can board a ship for a few hours to gamble in international waters, or pack your leather luggage and stay for several weeks basking in the sun and touring exotic lands.

Destinations
You can find a cruise for just about any destination in the world; if there is water, you can be sure it has been chartered by cruise lines. Where would you like to go? Choose from the Caribbean, Pacific coast of California, Mexico, Alaska, etc.

Variety
Regardless of the area of your cruise, you will have many options to choose from. Cruise lines range in price and packages offered. Different lines are notary for varied reasons such as food, entertainment, customer service, etc. You will need to study different cruise lines in order to find a perfect fit for what you are looking for: a romantic getaway, a single’s cruise, a trip where you will be bringing carriers of kids luggage, etc.

Differences
Certain cruise lines are known for catering to particular populations and categories. For instance, one cruise line may be perfect for a single person to meet others and party, yet another may be better suited for a family looking to see different sites. It is important to consider what you want out of your cruise in order to choose where to go to get it.

Finding your cruise
Take some preliminary steps to ensure the cruise will be everything you wish it to be:

Research cruise line Web sites and brochures

What type of ambience do you desire? Quiet? Romantic? Family oriented? Make sure the cruise will meet your expectations.

Ask others about their experiences on cruises and particular lines. Word-of-mouth is a great way to supplement your own research.

Use a booking agent. Ask them all pertinent questions and to address any concerns you may have.

How to decide
Consider some factors while making your decision before you pack your luggage:

The amount of money you have saved for the trip

If the cruise line is offering deals

The quality of the line’s food

The customer service of the cruise ship

Does the line have a reputation for partying, elegance, romance, etc.

The length of the cruise

Activities planned by the line

Ports you will be visiting

The ship’s facilities

Shopping for carry-on bags and other luggage.

Dare to Take a Vacation

How badly do you need to take advantage of your name brand luggage and take a vacation? Most people will vigorously shake their head in the affirmative when asked if they need a vacation, but it does not always seem like an easy endeavor. Besides the monetary issues, many people have anxious feelings relating to work when pondering a vacation break. People feel pressure to be model employees; and model employees do not take vacations- they are too busy working.

Foregoing vacations due to work-related anxieties is not healthy or good for your working life. Just as taking too much time off is bad for your career, not taking enough time off can be detrimental as well.

How can businesses and employees alike take better advantage of leather luggage, hardside luggage, and accessories?

It starts from the top
The executives can start trends. If employees see that the executives can balance work and life, then they will most likely follow suit (ha ha). Once employees observe that executives can appropriately find balance, then others will emulate the process. It is important for executives to take a “normal” vacation. This means that they really “vacate” all work duties while on vacation (except in emergency situations). If executives are sending emails, making calls, and “checking in” while on vacation, then others will feel that they will have to do the same when they have time off.

For everyone
All employees (from top to bottom) need to follow the appropriate protocol in asking for a vacation. Let supervisors know in advance and make sure all work that is due during your time away is accounted for. Most workers get at least two weeks of vacation; it is not a crime to take advantage of your luggage sets. If your motions of taking a vacation are apropos, then there should be no anxiety in going for it.

Prepare
As aforementioned, before you use your luggage, you need to prepare others for your departure. Let supervisors, clients, and coworkers know about your vacation plans. Supervisors will be able to log your time off and delegate duties accordingly, clients will not be left in the dark if they need your help and can refer to others, and coworkers will be able to help you with internal and external tasks if needed.

Get away
Now that you have properly prepared for your departure, grab your spouse and the kids luggage (don’t forget to grab the kids too) and take off. It is important not to think about the office, bosses, or anything job-related while away. Just relax and enjoy yourself. At most, leave a message on your voicemail indicating to others when you started your vacation and when you will return. If it is really important, leave a contact number of where you can be reached in exigent instances.

Again, do not try to be in two places at the same time; either you are on vacation or you are at work. Respect your time off as you respect your working life. Do not forget to have fun!

Why Do You Need Luggage in the First Place?

Why do people travel? The industry has been booming for a very long time and there doesn’t seem to be an impediment to its impetus in sight. So, why do we decide to load our luxury, name brand luggage with articles of clothing, book flights, board trains, and hit the open road? The following article will provide some reasons to remind you to dust off your leather luggage and make it to a different destination.

To rekindle relationships
Sometimes getting ten dollars on your birthday isn’t enough contact to have with Aunt Martha, or you realize it has been over five years since you last saw a childhood friend. So, we gather our fond memories along with some clothes to throw in our hardside luggage, and set out to meet dear acquaintances. Unfortunately, as we get older, the people that are important to us are not immediately at our disposal, so we must make it a point to see them regardless of the miles between.

For business
Some see it as a hassle and others see it as a perk; but, many careers require traveling. It may not sound like an adventure to load your computer bag and business cases with articles necessary for business meetings, workshops, and presentations, but after the responsibilities are over, there is a chance for discovery.

See the Sites
You can read volumes about the Sistine Chapel, the Louvre, and the Coliseum on the Web, but no information can replicate the actual experience of being there. Countless sites exist in the world to be visited and travelers understand that it take more than thought to fully appreciate them. It requires taking a nap on a flight, getting in the car for a few days, or whisking through the countryside by train.

For the family
Some of us require luggage sets or kids luggage because we are not traveling alone. Traveling is often related to vacationing and who better to vacation with than family members? The vicissitudes of everyday life can separate us from the ones we love. Vacations offer a chance to escape from work, hobbies, and other things that take time away from family life, and provide a chance to spend quality time with loved ones.

What will be your next reason to travel?

Knowledge to Take on the Road

Where are you going on your next trip? If you are traveling overseas, you most likely are traveling by plane. When staying in the country, more travel options are available. In the spirit of the Beat generation’s, Jack Kerouac, many decide to pack their luggage, throw it in the trunk, and go ‘on the road.’ There is a sense of freedom aligned to traversing the land inch by inch rather than boarding a metal box, being cramped in with others, dealing with security issues, and arguing over what defines carry-on luggage. More people are deciding to take their families on a vehicular voyage to their destination.

Before you go, you may want to peruse over the following suggestions:

Keep it clean
Close quarters can serve as a prime platform to engage in conversation with the family, but it can also become a receptacle for everything from old receipts to food wrappers. You wouldn’t treat your leather luggage with such disregard; so neither should your car meet this fate. Clean your car before you leave, frequently during the journey, and after your trip.

Leave the backdoor open
Not back at your house, but speaking metaphorically, leave the backdoor open. Everything is not going to go exactly as planned; it is good to have multiple options. You might be taking alternate roads, looking for destinations that exist on the map - but not in reality, and driving through the night to make up for lost time while your family is taking advantage of their travel pillows.

Take scenic routes
Highway driving is conducive to making good time, but the sights can be repetitious. It is suggested to plan ahead in order to take some scenic routes. Maps will usually indicate what roads are aesthetically pleasing. Back roads give the traveler an opportunity to see local sights and provide a chance to better experience a particular location.

Don’t disregard the highways
Back roads can enrich the traveling experience, but don’t completely forget about the highways. Remember that you packed your name brand luggage for a reason- to get to your final destination. Back roads offer a grand view, but could be long and winding. It is best to choose prime back roads to engage before you start driving. This way, you can optimally balance time and viewing pleasure.

Create a team
All people are different. Some are great at extracting information from a map, some are great at being patient and careful when driving, and others are efficient in planning meals and places to see while on the road. Create a team. Just like a luggage set, each member of the team can serve a specific service.

Better to be safe…
Ideally, you do not want any trouble to arise, but it can happen. Join a roadside assistance club such as AAA that will aid you in the event of a breakdown, flat tire, overheating, etc. Do not rely on luck, the kindness of others, and your own mechanical prowess. Roadside services will be able to link you with a tow truck and mechanical assistance no matter your location.

Have all documentation up-to-date
It would be unfortunate to get a ticket during a time meant for relaxation. Keep all of your documentation in one place in the event that you will have to show them to the proper authorities. Also, be sure to take care of any past infringements before your journey no matter how small. You would not want any small trifles to interrupt your journey.

Be versatile
It is an excellent idea to devise a plan before packing your luggage, but life does not always need to be meticulously planned. You might find yourselves on a resplendent mountain range on a perfect day and decide to spend a few more hours there. You may have intended to spend a few days in an area you expected to be Shangri-La, but turned out to be the eighth circle of hell. Unexpected things happen; sometimes it is okay to stray from your initial plan. The main objective is to enjoy yourself and the people around you.

How to Reduce Luggage Problems

Most of us will fly with at least one piece of carry-on luggage along with other luggage we have to check. Unfortunately, there are times that issues will arise in regards to your bags. Ideally, we want to never come in to contact with problems, but realistically, the best method is to do things to avoid them.

The following article is devised to provide suggestions and tips in relation to having a smooth, problem-free ride.

Banned items
Be sure to understand what is allowed to be brought on the plane and packed in your leather luggage. Airlines have become increasingly strict in recent times; some things that are not allowed are not so obvious. If you are bringing something that might be questionable, check out the airline’s Web site or call their customer service to be sure there will not be a problem.

Limits
Most airlines will allow you to bring two pieces of carry-on luggage and two articles of checked luggage. Any additional bags or items may cost you extra. A good rule is to get to the airport at least an hour before your flight leaves. This will give you ample time to check your luggage and make sure all your baggage is secured for the flight.

Limiting risk
There is a chance that checked luggage could be lost, stolen, damaged, delayed, etc. The following is not a set of solutions; but tips to help reduce the level of risk.
Only travel with carry-on luggage. If you are taking a short trip, try to get all of your things into one bag.

Luggage usually goes through a conveyor belt. Rid your luggage of anything that may snag such as belts, straps, etc.

Make your bag easy for the proper authorities to inspect.

Some luggage sets look similar. Make your luggage distinguishable from the rest with an id tag or some other form of identification.

Check the airline’s luggage tags. Make sure the gate agent places a tag on each piece of your luggage and it matches your baggage claim ticket. Also, make sure that you and your bags are going to the same destination.

Fragile and expensive items should not be placed in your checked, hardside luggage, but in your carry-on bag. Airlines may compensate you for some things, but it is better to be safe. Keep all your valuables on your person- especially prescribed medication. You would not want to be stuck without your medicine if something was to happen to your luggage.

Those who load luggage on and off the plane are not always delicately inclined. If you have a fragile item, put it in your carry-on bag. Even if wrapped and cushioned well, you are taking a chance putting fragile items in your checked luggage.

Need Help Packing?

Don’t live in the dark; packing is an art form. There are those who arrive at their destination lacking the appropriate attire and have to compensate, and those who tread through long, crowded terminals toting four pieces of luggage. The happy medium lies in packing light, but efficiently. How is this state achieved?

Develop a plan
Comparable to composing the blueprints for an architectural masterpiece, is the need to develop a packing list. This aids in packing your luggage at the onset of the trip, and reloading your bags at the tail end of the journey.

Think of all possible events that may arise on your trip: dinners, dancing, swimming, hiking, etc. Do you have the appropriate clothing for each event? Are there any articles of clothing that can be utilized for two or more occasions?

Have you checked the weather forecast for your intended destination? You may not need to pack your hooded sweatshirt in your leather luggage for a mid-summer Florida visitation. Do you know the customs where you are going? There may be limitations to how much skin you can show in certain places.

Take it or leave it
Put your clothes on display. Examine all articles with a keen eye. Do you definitely need everything you are bringing? Is it necessary to bring five pairs of jeans for a two-day stay?

You can contact your hotel or lodgings ahead of time. Will they accommodate you with shampoo, towels, hair dryers, ironing board, etc.?

Jewelry is aesthetically pleasing- especially to thieves. Do not take anything you would not want to lose or will give you extra attention you would not want. Smelling great is always pleasurable for those around you, but you are bringing a plethora of scented lotions, so you may not need the five bottles of perfume too.

Purchase a traveling kit. This will give you the option and receptacles to bring all of your toiletries. A good insight is to try to economize on the amount of all things you are bringing. Is it possible to take a certain number of Q-tips rather than the whole box?

The fine art of packing
You are sure what you want to bring, so now it is on to the next phase. Iron everything before you place it in your wheeled luggage. Button all buttons and zip-up all zippers. Taking special care of your clothes before they are placed in your suitcase will ensure they come out the same once you get to your destination.

Become a folding aficionado. The better you become at the practice, the better your clothes will be maintained through the travel experience. Articles such as jeans, t-shirts, skirts, and sports coats can be rolled rather than traditionally folded to save space.

Overlap two articles of clothing. One article will be used as a cushion for the other to be placed on. This will help in avoiding wrinkles. Placing tissue paper in between articles of clothing will also help preserve the clothing and save them from wrinkles.

Think ahead. Put clothes on the top of your hardside luggage that you will be wearing first. This way, you will not have to disrupt other articles while searching through for specific items.

Eliminate empty space. Empty, loose space promotes wrinkles and the need for more bags on your journey. For instance, place socks in shoes rather than placing them in separately.

Unpack your luggage as soon as possible upon arrival to prevent wrinkling. Most people experience a problem when repacking their luggage. This is because used items are to be washed, so they are not repacked with care. Repack worn items in the same fashion as employed before your trip. This will ensure that you have the same amount of room returning as arriving.
